Layers of Autumn

San Juan Mountains, Colorado

At 14,150 feet, Mount Sneffels rises to three times the height of the volcano for which it is named, Snæfellsjökull, in western Iceland. With its towering height and imposing profile, Mount Sneffels dominates much of the landscape surrounding the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado.

The Mt. Sneffels Wilderness, doesn’t currently encompass or protect this northern aspects of the mountain. This would be remedied through an addition to the existing wilderness under the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act, recently introduced by Senator Michael Bennet and Representative Joe Neguse.
