Columbine in the Sawatch Range

White River National Forest, Colorado

Columbine bloom in the Echo Creek Drainage of San Isabel National Forest. Looking South, La Plata Peak, the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness and the Elk Mountain-Collegiate North Colorado Roadless Area can be seen. The elegant columbine, state flower of Colorado, takes its name from “columba”, the latin word for dove.
